Hello all. I can't believe that January is almost over already. And with February now looming in the not-so-distant future, it's time to start planning for what will come with it...and that is WPPI. For those non-photographers reading this, WPPI stands for Wedding & Portrait Photographers International. It is a huge convention held in Las Vegas every year and this will be my 9th year in a row attending. What can I say, aside from all of the knowledge I've picked up over the years, I've made some valuable friendships with photographers from all over the world and many of them I get to see just once a year as we all descend on and attempt to take over the strip for a few days.
This year I'll fly in on February 18th, catch the Joe McIntyre/ Emanuel Kiriakou show at the Palms, hang out with the Pictage people at the

Today I have been working on editing a wedding I shot last month. And one of the images inspired me to do a blog post. This one is for you photographers...although I think it might be educational to anyone who is in the process of hiring a wedding photographer or thinking about it.
So anyway most of us wedding photographers like to photograph the wedding gown before the bride actually gets into it. It's just something we do. Many of us have to seek out a decent-looking wooden or silk hanger just to get the dress off of the god-awful plastic thing that the dress shops provide. It just doesn't make for a pretty picture. So once we've found a decent-looking hanger, we look for a good location to photograph the dress. Sometimes this is easy, sometimes it's hard. Today for educational purposes (for clients, other photographers, friends, family, whoever is interested) I thought I'd share what my weekends look like...because I think they look quite different from people I know who have what I like to call "a proper job."
This first photo (on the left) was taken yesterday (Saturday) when I was about to leave to go shoot a wedding. Please note the bottle of water (futile attempt to hydrate) and the bottle of Advil (an absolute necessity). Now I love my job as much as anyone, and I feel incredibly lucky to do what I do. However, I feel that now and then it's good to hang it out there into the public just how hard it really is...since every time I see an article or a tv piece about how anyone can be a wedding photographer, I get just a little bit hot under the collar.

Exciting news everyone! This has all come together over the course of just a few hours really but I was excited and thrilled when Walter Van Dusen, an awesome wedding photographer and the host of the Mystic Seminars asked me to speak at Mystic 6 which is to be held...where else? Mystic, Connecticut on January 6-9, 2011. And what a lineup he has! Clients, you all know that Pictage is my lab of choice for posting your wedding images. It is the first place you see all of the images from your wedding. These are also the fine people who print and deliver the images you decide to order in print form. They allow me the freedom to concentrate on things like shooting your weddings, designing your albums, answering your emails, working on your slideshows and all of the other millions of things I have to do (but love to do) as a photographer and business owner.
