What a day we had yesterday! After sleeping in at the Maritime Hotel in NYC, Gary and I hopped a train out to Newark to attend the ultra-hyped Hannah Montana concert. Yes, you read correctly and no we did not pony up $2000 per ticket either. We met up with Gary's sister Jamie out front and then were led inside by my amazing sister-in-law, Kay who has been on tour as one of Miley's back-up singers. For those of you who don't have kids or have been living on another planet for the past few months, Miley Cyrus is the daughter of country singer, Billy Ray Cyrus and has her own show on the Disney Channel. During the opening set by the Jonas Brothers, we were all back in the dressing room watching Kay transform herself from cool, tattooed, indie rock chic into a rosy-cheeked, oh-so-sparkly, ringlet pigtailed teeny bopper. I know, I know, I have been totally MIA lately but really I do have some excuses. Instead of boring you with those though, I figured I'd just catch everyone up on the recent, current & future schedule. Here I go: December 24th - flew from LA to DC December 25th - celebrated Xmas with Gary, my dad, Lauren & Jimmy December 26th - drove from DC to NJ to visit Gary's parents December 27th - I bought myself a new loaded MacBook Pro laptop for Xmas & because my accountant says I have to spend money before the end of the year. It is also my brother Michael's 40th birthday. I freak out since I am a decade younger. Gary starts singing "30 turtle doves" to me in honor of the looming 3-0 in 2008. December 28th (today) - Gary & I drove from NJ to NYC, check into the Maritime Hotel & then
Check this out...we bought this little dog puppet and it drives Oliver absolutely crazy. Of course we were sort of messing with him as we kissed it and rubbed it and talked to it like a little baby. It drove him nuts and here is a picture of him barking at it on the coffee table. Also notice the awesome grocery bag we got from Tea as a Xmas gift. Thank you Tea, we love it and the Warhol book! Just packing tonight for a very early flight to DC in the morning. Merry Christmas everyone!
December 21st, 2007Â Yes you read that heading correctly, Gary and I attended Ike Turner's funeral this morning. We sat in the 6th row of an enormous church in Gardena and watched and listened as Ike's relatives, friends, business acquaintances & fans mourned the loss and celebrated the life of a music icon. I must say that culturally it was unlike anything I have ever experienced before. There was a lot of screaming and singing and people running around the stage and people yelling from their seats. Little Richard and Phil Spector both gave eulogies that were both humorous and enlightening about the character that Ike was with a few jabs at Tina Turner for ruining his reputation and at Oprah for enabling the popularity of Tina's "What's Love Got To Do With It" which is largely credited for destroying Ike's reputation. There still seems to be a lot of mystery surrounding the
I just wanted to take a moment to mention something that happened the day that I shot Erin & Tim's wedding on December 8th. I was walking from the Mayflower Hotel (in DC) over to St. Matthew's Cathedral (where JFK's funeral was held) with my new fabulous assistant Jenni. She was dragging my camera bag along while I had a camera dangling from my neck. Well apparently we walked right past Laura Bush and I didn't even notice, Jenni had to point it out to me. I just love the fact that my camera was right there totally accessible to me but I was totally oblivious to my surroundings since I was very much in wedding mode. She would have had to be running down the street in a big, white dress for me to notice her. Apparently I would not make a very good paparazzo. :)Â
